Mark Hammel Memorial Six Star Award
 |
The Cub program is the second rung of Canadian Scouting, but is the
first at which youth measure their achievements by earning stars, badges,
and awards.
Challenge badges are triangular badges which recognize specific skills,
talents, hobbies, or interests. The carpenter, photographer, camper,
and observer badges are examples of these.
Broader achievements, accomplished over a longer period of time, are
recognized by the earning of stars. There are six stars in the Cub
program:
- Black Star: discovering our Natural world;
- Green Star: experiencing the Outdoors;
- Tawny Star: exercising personal Creativity;
- Red Star: practising personal Fitness;
- Blue Star: helping in the Community;
- Purple Star: taking pride in being Canadian.

Earning all six stars in the course of the three-year Cub program is a
significant accomplishment, one that has been reached by only a few Cubs.
We recognize this special effort by recording their names on the Mark Hammel
Memorial Six Star Trophy, on display in the Richmond Public Library.
